Pigeon-Toe (Intoeing) Gait can be the Result of:
  • (4) Rothbarts Foot - in children, anteversion (internal femoral rotation) is a common positional compensation which prevents the child's foot from pronating. (One of the most common symptoms seen in children is foot fatigue resulting from abnormal pronation) (See Animation below).

Compensatory Anteversion to diminish the foot pronation.  Note the increase in left foot pronation (white shoe) when the patient decreases his anteversion. These photos were taken on the same day (12 year old male patient).

    • Left hip anteversion (and resulting intoeing of the left foot) reduces left foot pronation
    • When the left hip functions around its anatomical neutral position (resulting in the foot pointing straight forward), left foot pronation increases
