Vertebral Artery

The vertebral arteries are major arteries within the neck.

  • The vertebral arteries branch off from the subclavian arteries.
  • The vertebral arteries then merge to form the single midline basilar artery in a complex called the vertebrobasilar system.
  • The vertebrobasilar system supplies blood to the posterior part of the circle of Willis and thus significant portions of the brain.

Irritation of the vertebral artery, such as can occur in a C1 Roll, can result in symptoms similar to Senile Dementia.
